Since the Total Afcon Championships began in Cairo on June, Egypt the home side were considered the favourites to lift the trophy once again. Egypt has won the trophy 7 times and since they had a home ground advantage everyone expected them to lift the trophy for the 8th time.
But after finishing 1st in there group and qualifying for the knockout stages, they were grouped against South Africa who haven’t quite showed their brilliance in the tournament. Being the underdogs in the game,Bafana bafana scored a late second half goal to earn the Egyptians their first loss of the tournament and therefore knocking them out.
This means that the most favourite team to win remaining is Senegal. Top ranked in Africa, they have only suffered a single defeat in the group qualifications but finished second behind Algeria who topped the group.
